Governor's of Laguna

Town Origins

LAGUNA:
The Leisure Paradise is also a business haven

Can verdant landscapes and industrial estates co-exist?
Can prime natural resources and bustling commerce thrive together?
Can business and leisure really mix?

In Laguna, all these questions have a common answer-and that answer is a resounding yes. Here (where the rich soil, ideal climate and a even rainfall nurture a myriad of floral and fauna) businesses can easily take root and prosper as tourism did.The province is one of the few places in the Philippines where tourism truly thrives hand-in-hand with industrial development. Crammed full of natural resources, Laguna is and will always be a leisure paradise and a business haven for sightseers, vacationers and business people alike.

It is in Laguna where most resorts are built amidst the splendor of nature, providing a romantic background of honeymooners and lovers. Invigorating hot springs located mostly in town of Los Baños and Calamba, provide soothing relief (and who knows maybe even a cure) for aches and pains. Clear lakes and rivers play gracious hosts to endless rounds of picnics, water sports and outings. Great fun and adventure await at the Pagsanjan Falls--where shoothing the rapids is a must experience. For nature-lovers, mountain trekking up the mystical Mt. Makiling can be truly exciting.

Not only is Laguna is endowed with natural wonders, it is also steeped in history. For instance Calamba boasts of producing the countries foremost national hero,Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Period pieces, family possessions and valuable memorabilia are displayed in a replica of the hero's house- mementos of the glorious past.

When looking for souvenir items, Laguna is one huge showcase of Southern Tagalog craftsmanship. Let the Paete and Pakil woodcarvers impress you with their diligence and skill as they turn out wonderful wood sculptures. Or witness the artistry of papier mache' makers turn out figures of varying shapes and sizes. Go ahead! Try on some of Liliw's shoes made from abaca hemp. A for a truly Filipino pasalubong shopping consider bringing home a piece or two of Lumban's intricately designed and beautifully-embroidered jusi cloth (the fabric use for the barong tagalog, the Philippines national dress for men)-masterpieces that you (and your greatful recipients) can wear.

One should also try the sweet tasting tropical fruits Laguna is famous of such as lanzones from Paete, pineapples from Calauan, chico, bananas, mangoes, rambutan, avocados, guyabano (soursop) and dalanghita from all over the province. Native delicacies such as the buko pie, espasol, ampaw, pinipig, kesong puti (white cheese) shing-a-ling and tamarind sweets are simply irresistible.

While the lure of Laguna rest largely on its natural attractions and rustic charm, the province is far from a sleepy one. Many years of preparation and planning have enabled Laguna to evolved and develop its industrial potential alongside its agricultural thrust. This effort is in-line in Laguna's dream of becoming the center of economic activity in the Southern Tagalog region and the CALABARZON.

Business activity in the area is bustling and rapidly becoming increasingly hectic. Several industrial states designed for handling large-scale firms engaged in texttile manufacturing, electronics, food processing, industrial machine and car assembly are now operating in Laguna. The province's agricultural area are now enjoying a surge in agri-based industries like cutflower and ornamental plant growing.

Laguna's continuing growth is not a total surprise since the elements to make it happen are in place. The infrastructure requirements-roads, transportation, communication facilities, waterworks and power-are adequately met and are continuously being improve with the blessing of both the Local and National government. Support services such as banks and hospitals are expanding to meet the needs of growing population. Both the government and the people work together to ensure industrial peace and productivity in the province. Liberal incentives for companies, big or small are also available. And last but not the least, the labor force of Laguna is formidable-well trained and well educated.

Whether you're in for fun or business, you'd get a perfect deal in Laguna. After all there are not a lot of places in the Philippines where you can bask in the beauty of nature one moment then attend to business matters the next.
