Crop Production
Since the early 80’s, Laguna had been experiencing an overall downtrend production in agriculture. From a high of 365,661,994 for 1999 it swinged down to a low of 131,938,332. This was mainly due to the decrease in the production of temporary crops. For the year 1999, it totaled to 243,898,618 but plunged to
12,951,018 in year 2000.

Looking closer, the decrease in temporary crop production was due to the drastic drop in the production of sugarcane, the previous year’s top produced. In 1999, 232,135,000 sugarcanes were produced but only produced 5,462 for 2000. That is a 99.99% decrease in production.

On the brighter side, among the permanent crops, lanzones and coffee had an increase in production but coconut continues to be the top permanent crop produced. In 1999, 107,940,759 coconuts comprised 88.65% of all permanent crops produced. The following year, coconut production was a notch lower producing only 107,713,056 but still comprises 90.52% of all permanent crops produced.

Livestock and Poultry Production
The 4th District has the greatest number in terms of backyard animal population for the years 1999 and 2000. It was able to produce a total of 877,672 animals in 1999 and 1,077,862 by year 2000. 4th District was the top producer of carabaos, swine, chickens, geese and turkey for the last two years.

While the 1st three districts produces a combined 300 thousand chickens more or less, the 4th District alone was able to produce 717,197 chickens during the year 1999. Majayjay, a town in the 4th District is the top producer of chickens in particular. In 1999, this town produced 260,000 chickens. These figure was doubled during the following year when Majayjay produced 522,000 chickens.

On the other hand, the 1st District is the top producer of dogs for the last two years. While the 3rd District is the consistent top duck producer for the last two years.

Fishing

Tilapia Fishpond
For Tilapia Fishpond production for the year 1999, 149 hectares was utilized producing an aggregate amount of 2,488 metric tons of tilapia. 16 towns all in all produced tilapia via fishponds for the said year with Calauan being the top producer. Calauan was able to produce a total of 835 metric tons of fishpond tilapia.

Fishcages
Fish cages utilized a greater area with 225.05 hectares producing much more with 26,333 metric tons of fish. Among the 15 towns that have fish cages, San Pedro was the top producer with 6,687 metric tons.

Fishpens
Fish pens utilized the greatest area with 1,045.30 hectares producing 8,057 metric tons of fish. Only 5 towns have fish pens, which include San Pedro, Binan, Sta. Rosa, Calamba and Los Banos. Among the five, San Pedro is the top producer at 4,281 metric tons.

The province produced the most fish during the month of September producing 9,098 metric tons. The least production comes in the first month of the year, January, at 841.3 metric tons.
