Oscar Calderon the 2 suspected carnappers during this morning’s press conference at the Office of the Governor, Provincial Capitol in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Elements of the Pila Municipal Police Station headed by P/C Inspector Leovildo Manaig immediately responded in the recent carnapping incident in Pila town when suspect, identified Joselito M. Opulencia, tried to steal the Honda Civic with plate # URK-989 driven by Gary A. Mendoza and owned by Rufa L. Hernandez. According to reports, Mendoza left the car momentarily unattended while refueling at a gas station along the National Highway in Brgy. Bulilan Sur, Pila, Laguna and noticed the ignition of the car’s engine and rushed to confront the suspect. There was serious struggle and the suspect eventually pulled out a .45 caliber pistol and got out of the car and attempted to escape riding a tricycle driven by Alvin C. Ardeza.

Follow-up operation led to the arrest of Opulencia who is a resident of Brgy. Sambat, Tanauan City, Batangas. Another operation led to the apprehension of other suspect Ponciano Gonzales at Villa Sta. Ana Resort, Brgy. Pansol, Calamba City. The 3rd suspect identified as Mong Chavez managed to elude arrest and is now being pursuit by a massive manhunt.

The suspects are believed to be members of the notorious Galicia-Tolentino Group that is an organized carnapping syndicate group based in Tanauan City where Laguna, Rizal, and Batangas are their areas of operations.
