115th Rizal Day, celebrated in Laguna

          The Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL) took pride in celebrating the 115th death anniversary of its most famous son, Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, last December 30 in front of the New Capitol Building in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
 
          PGL department and office heads attended the said celebration together with their staff. Also present were representatives and members of Pagsabitan Lodge No. 26; Knights of Rizal; Laguna History, Arts, and culture Office (LAHACO); National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP); Department of Education Division of Laguna (DepEd-Laguna); Sangguniaang Panlalawigan of Laguna (SP-Laguna); and Council of Philippine Affairs; and Rizal family.
 
          The program started with the offering of flowers to the Rizal monument erected at the site. It was followed by the messages of the guests and Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan and performances from Sining Katutubo Dance Assembly (SIKADA) and Tanglaw Artists Guild (TAG).
 
          Emphasized in the messages and performances were the contribution that Rizal made in shaping Philippine as a nation. Rizal is considered as the pillar of Philippine independence for he triggered the start of the revolution in 1896 with his death.
 
          After the program, Governor Ejercito and other guests went to the second Rizal monument in the capitol grounds to offer flowers. Then they went to the Cultural Center of Laguna to have lunch. (Article by Edward C. Aquino/Analee P. Vergel)
