Senior citizens (SCs) travel for a variety of reasons; in the case of SCs from the Municipal Senior Citizen Association (MUSCA) of Cavinti, Laguna which has almost 1,300 registered members, the travel was to enjoy, explore, and see sights and wonders Tagaytay City has to offer.

The group boarded the Provincial Capitol Bus, courtesy of Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan, May 17 (5:00 AM). Thirty eight (38) chapter presidents and vice-presidents including MUSCA President Felina Arroyo joined the delegation. SC Consultant Sonny M. Manuel; Ms. Weng Durante and Ptr. Felix Ronquillo of Moral Development Office; and Ms. Marife Vilena and Ms. Cecil Eguaras of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office were also on board.

The delegation was welcomed by Tagaytay City Office for Senior Citizen Affairs Head Benjamine Ambion; Federation President Guilliermo Vidamo; Social Worker Neih Ambion; and Tourism Officer Jenny Angcaya who also acted as tour guides. A short program and exchange of pleasantries followed. While the Tagaytay City Band played a cha-cha-cha number, the group savored the hot “coffee bar” (kapeng barako) and Jacobina (fresh and crispy locally produced biscuit).

The group then visited the Senior Citizens Park, Tagaytay City Library, Tagaytay Museum, and Mushroom Burger restaurant where the group tasted the juicy mushroom burger and juice at a senior citizens price. They also visited the Pink Sisters Convent and Retreat House where they offered thanksgiving prayer for the safe, enjoyable, and fruitful trip. The group had lunch at Mahogany Market were they savored the steaming bulalo, spicy adobo sa gata carabeef, and fried dried tawilis.

The next stop was the People’s Park in the Sky. The group then proceeded to the Tagaytay Picnic Grove where Ms. Jenny Angcaya, Tourism Officer, awarded the Plaque of Appreciation and Recognition to Ms. Felina Arroyo on behalf of Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino. As a token of gratitude, Ms. Arroyo gave a pack of homemade kalamay and a gallon of the finest Cavinti lambanog.

The group boarded the Provincial Capitol Bus at around 4:30 PM on their way back to Cavinti, Laguna. The trip dubbed as “Lakbay-Aral at Saya” was in line with Governor Ejercito’s 15-point program K2 Kinse-Kumpleto Serbisyo Publiko Kontra Kahirapan at Gutom, especially for SCs. (Article by Sonny M.
