Rizal, Laguna – Hundreds of participants took part in the tree planting activity conducted in line with the Provincial Government of Laguna’s celebration of the 111th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) at Tayak Hills, September 23, 2011.

The activity was declared success as office heads and staff of the Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL); members of the local Municipal Government of Rizal; members of non-government organizations (NGOs); and students from different high schools of Rizal participated in the said event that day.

At around 10:30 AM, tree planting was followed by a short program at a village below the hill where Rizal Mayor Antonino A. Aurelio thanked everyone who joined the activity. Intermission numbers from members of Batang Rizal, a local NGO, then followed.

Representing Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan was Provincial Administrator Atty. Leonardo M. Ragaza, Jr. He extended the governor’s gratitude to the people who participated the activity. He likewise shared Governor Ejercito’s message of regret for his absence due to hospital confinement.

In his speech, Atty. Ragaza emphasized the importance of tree planting and other environment rehabilitating activities and encouraged everyone present, especially PGL employees, to plant at least 10 trees a year to contribute to the worldwide effort to slow down global warming and climate change. If followed, PGL employees alone will be able to plant around 30,000 trees a year.

After the Atty. Ragaza’s speech, the program closed around noon. Three thousand (3,000) Narra seedlings were planted, according to data given by the organizers. (Article by Edward C. Aquino)
