INTENSIFIES EFFORTS ON WASTES MANAGEMENT

     Laguna Provincial Government headed by Gov. Teresita "Ningning" S. Lazaro intensify its waste management agenda through Executive Order No. 05, Series 2005 that directs immediate implementation of waste segregation, reduction, re-use, and recycling in all offices under the Provincial Government, national offices, and food stalls / canteen within the premises of the Provincial Capitol Compound, San Luis RECS Complex, Pedro Guevarra Memorial National High School, and Laguna Provincial Hospital Hospital all in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

     Under the EO, every office should have three waste containers / bins labeled and colored as "bio-degradable" (green), "non-biodegradable" (red), and "special wastes" (yellow). Bipdegradable wastes include papers, food leftovers, and garden waste; non-biodegradable wastes include plastics, bottle, can etc.; and special wastes include paints, thinners, batteries, varnish, spray containers, and others.

     This is in response to the provinsions stipulated in RA 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 which states that the Local Government Units (LGUs) shall actively promote the reduction and minimization of wastes generated at source.

     The General Services Office (GSO) will be in-charge of the collection and transport of solid wastes and will provide definite and separate schedule of collection to avoid mixed wastes. The GSO and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office are tasked to closely monitor the proper implementation of the said EO.

     "This is in line with the Provincial Government's Sulong Kapaligiran environmental protection program under the flagship SULONG LAGUNA 7-POINT AGENDA. Every Lagunense, every citizen and sector of the society has its own responsibility and level of participation in our collective effort and goal to ensure proper waste management," Gov. Lazaro said in an interview.
