Laguna
Provincial Government, through its Gov. Teresita “Ningning’
S. Lazaro, and University of the Philippines Manila, through
its Chancellor Ramon L. Arcadio’s representative College
of Public Health Dean Caridad A. Ancheta, signed the Memorandum
of Agreement (MOA) on community health development at the
Office of the Governor, Provincial Capitol in Sta. Cruz, Laguna
last June 07, 2006.
Under the MOA, UP Manila and
the Laguna Provincial Government, through the Provincial Health
Office, are in a partnership in setting up community field
areas for public health students through the underlying principle
of active community participation in the implementation of
health projects and programs. Areas of the project include
most of the towns in the 3rd and 4th District of Laguna.
The two parties agree to identify
and analyze health problems and priorities, initiate and participate
in planning projects to deal with identified community problems,
and implement innovative projects in cooperation with sectoral
groups toward community health development.
They are to monitor and evaluate
projects through different approaches and conduct partnership
activities with the rural health unit (RHU) and community
groups to ensure the continuity and sustainability of projects
undertaken.
This is another part of the
Sulong Kalusugan at Nutrisyon under my administration’s
7-Point Agenda. Through this spirit of unity and cooperation,
I am more than willing to intensify efforts in pushing our
development programs and projects for the general welfare
of my fellow Lagunenses,” Gov. Lazaro said in an interview.
