LMC attends a seminar on ICD 10 for coders

On August 07-11, 2017, Administrative Aide III Ms.Francia A. Regaladoof the the Laguna Medical Center’s (LMC) Health Information Management Departmentattended a seminar on International Classification of Diseases Version 10 (ICD 10) held at the Ramada Hotel in Binondo, Manila.


As per invitation from the Philippine Association of Health Records and Information Officer, Inc. (PAHARIO) in collaboration with the Department of Health–Epidemiology Bureau, a five-day training course was initiated for the ICD 10 coders from different hospitals.


One of the tasks as health records officer and clerk is to determine the codes of diseases listed in the Health Records of patients using the ICD 10.  Clinical coding is defined as the translation of diseases, health related problems and procedural concepts from text to alphabetical/numeric codes for easy storage, retrieval and analysis.  It is also used to allow comparison of data between hospitals, provinces or countries.


Each day of the training, the participants learned the general principles, rules and guidelines of clinical coding and completely answered the exercises and assignments from Module 1 to Module 27.  Examinations were also given to coders and out of 66 coders; Ms. Regaladoranked 3 with her score of 94.5 percent.
