Free sports clinics reach rural communities

Provincial Sports and Games Development Office

True to its commitment of delivering sports development programs across Laguna, the Provincial Sports and Games Development Office (PSGDO), in partnership with various local sports associations, is currently holding sports clinics in various cities and municipalities of Laguna.

The football and futsal clinics, in particular, were held in various barangays of Pangil, Pagsanjan and Santa Cruz and are being attended by a total of 225 students from nearby rural areas. Head Clinician Lucita M. Cailles said that some students are very interested and determined to learn football and futsal that some of them are traversing the river in Cabanbanan, Pagsanjan, for 30 minutes, in order to attend the football clinic in Palasan, Sta. Cruz.

According to Sports Development Officer Gerardo S. Cantada, sports programs such as sports clinics can provide various opportunities for young Laguneños. By excelling and playing sports in higher level competitions and by being recruited by prestigious universities and colleges, children from rural areas can have a better chance of getting quality education and better future.

The province’s sports clinics also take pride of its roster of clinicians and coaches who have produced strong athletes in the regional, national and international sports tournaments. Ms. Cailles is a Palarong Pambansa Coach for Team CALABARZON from 1998-2018. Her assistants, brothers Hamid and Abdula Pasion, were Palarong Pambansa Champions and the country’s representative to the 2010 Homeless World Cup in Brazil.

At the moment, the Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez Serbisyong Tama Free Summer Sports Clinics have already accepted a total of 1,604 participants in 9 sports disciplines which are being held simultaneously in 36 venues in the province.
